You Are Not Alone. And You Are Not Dramatic
Dental anxiety is one of the most common things we see. Not mild nervousness before a cleaning. Real, genuine anxiety, the kind that keeps people up the night before. The kind that has meant years, sometimes decades of avoided care. The kind that makes people feel embarrassed and frustrated with themselves for not being able to just get through it.
If that's you, I want you to know something.
Your anxiety is not a character flaw. It is not a weakness. And it is almost certainly rooted in something real — an experience that hurt more than it should have, a procedure that felt out of control, or simply a lifetime of dread that built up so gradually you can't even remember where it started.
Whatever brought you here, I am genuinely glad you are on this page.

Our Approach
Many anxious patients tell us they’ve felt their concerns weren’t fully acknowledged at previous visits, that the appointment proceeded as it would for anyone else, without real adjustment for how they were feeling. A quick “don’t worry, it’ll be fine.” And then the same pace, the same assumptions, with no real change.
At Alora Dental, anxiety changes how we approach everything.
When you tell us you’re anxious, we slow down. We listen, not just to what you need today, but to what has been hard in the past. We explain your appointment so nothing feels unexpected. We check in throughout your visit, we give you control over the pace, and we never make you feel like your anxiety is an inconvenience.
Just calm, unhurried, genuinely compassionate care, designed around how you feel, not just what needs to be done.
Your Comfort Options
- The Alora Calm Environment - Before any clinical support is considered, the environment itself is designed with your nervous system in mind. Spacious treatment rooms with natural light create a sense of openness rather than confinement. The pace is unhurried. The team is warm and attentive. Comfort amenities — a pillow, noise-cancelling headphones, Netflix or your favourite music on your phone — are available at every appointment, because physical comfort during a visit can make a meaningful difference in how the whole experience feels.
- Calm communication - For many anxious patients, the single most helpful thing we do is explain everything before it happens. You will always know what is coming next. You will always have the opportunity to ask questions. And you will always feel in control of your own experience.
- Laughing gas (Nitrous oxide) - For patients who need a little extra support during treatment, laughing gas is a safe and gentle option. It’s administered through a small mask worn over your nose throughout your procedure. It works quickly and wears off just as quickly — meaning you can drive yourself home afterward and go about your day normally.
Laughing gas doesn’t put you to sleep. You remain fully aware and in control throughout your appointment. It is intended to help reduce anxiety and ease tension during treatment. For many patients who have been avoiding care, it can make a meaningful difference. - Oral sedation - For patients with more significant anxiety, oral sedation is a deeper option. A medication is taken at the office before your appointment begins, intended to help you feel more relaxed throughout your visit. You will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment, and most patients remember very little of the procedure.
Oral sedation allows us to complete more treatment in a single visit, which means fewer appointments overall for patients who find each visit difficult. For the right patient, it can make care feel much more manageable.
Referral When Needed
What to Expect When You Come In
We know that for an anxious patient, not knowing what to expect can be the hardest part. So here is exactly what your visit looks like.
When you arrive, you'll be welcomed warmly and allowed some time to settle in. Before anything begins, Dr. Chrapka will sit down with you and have a real conversation. She'll ask about your history, what has been hard in the past, and what would make you feel more comfortable today. This isn't a checklist. It's a genuine conversation between two people — one of whom happens to be a dentist who has heard this story many times and has never once judged anyone for it.
From there, everything is explained before it happens. If you need a break, you'll have a signal, simply raising your hand to let us know you need a break or to tell us something.
You are in control of your experience here. That is not just something we say. It is how every appointment actually runs.
